Re:crypto #1 The Alternative for the Ordinary Individual

Hey there and welcome to Re:crypto, the fun and informative newsletter that covers all things crypto for everyday people! Whether you're new to crypto, curious, or simply on the fence, we're here to help you make sense of this wild and exciting space.
Our aim at Re:crypto is to take you beyond the 101 level and break things down even further to the 21/22 level. We know that not everyone is an expert, which is why we explain things in a simple and relatable way that even non-professionals can understand. We'll show you how the crazy world of crypto can add value to your life and why it's worth getting involved.
We publish two newsletters a month, filled with analogies and practical tips that will help you navigate the crypto world with confidence. But before we dive into today's newsletter, let me introduce myself. My name is Jeremy, and I'm just an ordinary guy with a regular job. I grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I've always had a passion for investing. I started investing in stocks after the great financial crisis in 2009 and learned how to trade options shortly after.
My interest in buying something with the intent of selling it later for more than what I paid for it goes back to my trading card and collectible days. In 2017, I saw a TED talk on TV called "The Future of Money" that piqued my interest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. I bought my first Bitcoin in 2018 and have been fascinated by this sector ever since
In today's newsletter, I want to discuss why I believe cryptocurrencies are the future of wealth creation and how they are going to create a new wealthy class. Cryptocurrencies are a new asset class that is completely digital and is essentially the new version of the internet. With blockchain technology and protocols like Bitcoin and Ethereum, you can now own a piece of the network that is creating the new internet and extract value from its usage.
Back in the day, the only way to extract value from the internet was to build an application on top of it, such as Amazon, Google, or Facebook. But now, the underlying network itself is the valuable asset, and you can own a part of it without having to build an application. This is a huge opportunity for ordinary people to capture the value of this new asset class
Demographics also play a role. The younger generations are a lot more digital and technology-forward than our parents and grandparents were. According to a report by Cerulli Associates, $68 trillion in wealth will be transferred from Baby Boomers to their heirs and charitable causes by 2043. Knowing that, who do you think is going to get that money, and are they more likely to be digital natives or non-digital?
Finally, let's talk about market size. Currently, the entire crypto market is smaller than half the size of Apple, which is valued at $2.7 trillion. But the growth potential for the crypto market is enormous; it's at least a 10X to catch up with Gold and a 25X for stocks. Ark Invest believes that cryptocurrencies and smart contract platforms could command $20 trillion and $5 trillion respectively over the next 10 years.
So, there you have it! We hope you enjoyed our newsletter and learned something new about the world of crypto. Stay tuned for more, and remember, you don't need to be a tech expert or know how to code to get started in crypto. We've got your back!
